Background

The development of the building to house De Montfort University’s Faculty of Business and Law was an ambitious project to develop a top class teaching facility at Leicester’s University.

Approach

We were employed to coordinate the entire building, from the plant rooms to all of the fit out areas. There were challenges fitting the plant required in the space provided but, with some workshops with the design team, we got everything in in a maintainable manner. The distribution was tight and multi-layered, made more difficult with the late selection of expansion bellows when their large width affected the pipe spacings and adjacent coordination.

This was overcome and the classrooms along with large lecture theatres were all completed on th.e time available.

Results

We achieved a good coordination solution in a tight space. The pipework was mainly self-draining and installed with very few maintenance points. Due to the design information release the installation was proceeding almost at the same time as the coordination and drawing work but, even in this scenario, services were installed with minimal rework, in large part due to the efforts of our CAD team in the evenings and weekends to meet the targets
